English as a Second Language/Foreign Language (ESL) for Beginner Students

Join us for a series of ESL classes with Pelham resident, Joanne Orr!
This class is intended for begginers who are learning English as a second or foreign language and will be held every other Monday, alternating with the intermediate class.
These classes are walk-ins that do not require preregistration or attending all sessions.

Outside Story Time

Join us for our popular Story Time for infants and toddlers outside on our front lawn. Story Time is designed to enhance early literacy skills and features diverse children’s books in which all children can see themselves represented… plus we have a lot of fun! Please bring a blanket or lawn chair to sit on. Children must be supervised by an adult at all times. Story Time will be held outdoors throughout the year, but will be cancelled on days when the temperature is extreme, or if it is raining. Cancellations will be posted on our website at the top of our homepage. You may also call the Library when we open at 10 a.m. to inquire.
Ayurvedic Approaches to Common Disorders: Depression & Anxiety

Join us for a series of health lecture from Dr. Somesh N. Kaushik! This month’s session will cover depression and anxiety. Practiced in India for more then five thousand years, Ayurveda is a comprehensive system of medicine that combines natural therapies with a highly personalized approach to the treatment of disease. It emphasizes a preventive and holistic approach. Dr. Somesh N. Kaushik is the owner and chief medical practitioner of Dr. Kaushick’s Ayurvedic and Naturopathic Clinic in Cross River, NY. With over 35 years’ experience as an Ayurvedic physician, Dr. Kaushik is one of the most experienced Ayurvedic physicians in North America. He is the recipient of the Dhanwantri Award, his profession’s highest honor. Dr. Kaushik recently founded the Institute for the Advancement of Ayurvedic Sciences, a research and teaching institution. Demystifying Medicare

This informative in-person event is designed to help those not yet enrolled medicare understand the complicated system. This is open to those close interested in applying or helping other apply. The event will be held in person. Registration is required and can be done by calling the Library or stopping by the reference desk. For those who do not wish to attend an in-person event, please visit the WLS website anytime for comprehensive audio presentations of the program.

Defensive Driving

Instructor Sam Eskander will lead a defensive driving course in-person at the Library. This course will qualify you for a discount on your insurance and point reduction on your license. This course is six hours. There will be a 30-minute lunch break (please bring your lunch) and two 5-minute breaks (morning and afternoon). Cost is $30 in cash per participant. Pelham Chases Space

This class is intended for low-intermediate to advanced students who are learning English as a second or foreign language. (No beginners please!)
EJ Sepp has taught ESL for 20 years, and is the co-author of English Express New York : A Cultural Reading & Writing Text for English Language Learners.
