Using The Library

At Home

You can access many of the Library’s resources from home. To make any changes on your account such as notifications and password, go to My Account and click on preferences.

eResources:  On the e-Library page you will find research resources and downloadable eBooks and eAudiobooks, encyclopedias and more. You can also access our online learning tools including GED prep help, literature and legal information.

Search for items in the Library Catalog: Enter your search words in the search form and select from the drop-down menu for keyword, author, title, or subject. Then click the Search button. The results will list in a new window where your can continue searching in the WLS catalog, reserve materials to be delivered to the Library for pick-up, and/or access your account.

Library Newsletter Sign-up: Stay in touch. Enter your eMail address in the field on the top right of the home page. You will be notified about news and information about upcoming events and new services.

Renewing Items by Phone: You may call Westchester Library System by Phone, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Dial 914-674-4169 and follow the prompts. Be sure to have your library card ready and know your password.

Physical Library

Book Drops:

  • Exterior Book Drop: Our book drop located by the Carol Place entrance allows you to return materials at your convenience. Items left in the book drop before the Library opens will be checked in for the previous day. There may be times during special programs that we lock the book drop as to not disturb the program presenter and/or the enjoyment of our attendees. If the book drop is full or clogged, please do not leave materials outside the book drop. Borrowers will be responsible for missing or lost items not checked in.
  • Interior Book Drop: Located by the copy machine on the end of the Circulation Desk.

Borrowing Periods and Fine and Fee Schedule: Please see our Circulation page for information on borrowing library materials.

Cell Phone Use: Please use your cell phone for calls in the lobby only.

Circulation Desk: To get a library card or for issues regarding your account or materials on your account, please speak to our knowledgeable Circulation Staff. Or to check your account yourself or change your contact information please see our My Account and go to preferences.

Computers and Printers: Please see our Computers, Printers, Wi-Fi page for more information.

Copy Machine: The Library’s copy machine is a simple black and white copier. It costs 15 cents per copy. It makes letter and legal size copies only.

Diaper Changing Station: There is a pull down changing station located in the Pre-School Collection bathroom.

Fax Machine: We are able to send faxes for .25 a page. Please ask at the circulation desk.

Laptops: You are welcome to bring your laptop or other PDA or tablet to the Library to use. The reference table has outlets for your electronic devices. There are also some plugs along the wall by the seating area in the Reference Collection area and Chairmen’s Corner. Please do not run electrical cords along the floor or re-arrange furniture. Library Cards: Everyone is welcome to use the materials and computers in the Library. But in order to borrow materials to take outside of the Library you must have a Westchester Library System Member Library card. See our Get a Library Card page for more information. From the left menu block click on Using the Library > Get a Library Card.

Librarians: The reference desk is located in the Main Room.

New Books: New fiction and new non-fiction are shelved in the Main Room on the stacks for new books. After 6 months new materials are moved into the adult stacks.

Pets: Only service animals are allowed in the Library.

Quiet Area: The reference table is the Quiet Area. Please refrain from talking, cell phone use and group projects in this area.

Paper Recycling: We strive to be mindful of our environment. The blue recycling bin is located in the lobby.

Wi-Fi Hotspot: The Library is a wi-fi hotspot. Please see our Computers, Printers, & Wi-Fi page for more information. Or, on the left menu block click Using the Library > Computers, Printers, Wi-Fi.

Library Grounds

Please enjoy the grounds as an extension of the Library. Some patrons enjoy reading and/or some quiet time.

Benches: There are several benches outside for your reading or quiet enjoyment. These benches were made possible by gifts to the Library.

Bicycles: Please park and lock your bike at the bicycle rack outside the Library by the Wolfs Lane entrance. Do not bring your bike into the Library or lock it to a stairwell or other object.

Handicap Ramp: The ramp is located by the Carol Place entrance. Please be mindful of people who need to use the ramp and do not leave any object(s) blocking the ramp that will impede someone’s access.

Parking: The parking lot is reserved for patrons using the Library. The Library has 22 spots plus 2 handicapped parking spaces. Parking is free. People who park illegally overnight or during the day risk having their automobiles towed. Towing is by Safeway Towing in New Rochelle, 914-632-5555. Using the parking lot as a pick-up or drop-off location for events not related to the library creates an unnecessary bottleneck.

  • School Visitors: There are five spots on Carol Place marked for School Visitors. Visitors should obtain a pass for their dashboards from the School District 914-738-3434. After school and on Saturdays, this parking is available for Library users.
  • Teachers: There are 5 spots on Carol Place marked for PUFSD personnel.

Sports: For the enjoyment and safety of of our users, please refrain from playing sports on the grounds. For your own safety, please do not skateboard, rollerblade or ride your bike or scooter in the parking lot or grounds. Also, please do not climb trees on the property. Finally, smoking is not allowed anywhere on the property.
