Pride Month Resources
Celebrate LGBTQIA+ Pride Month with this mix of history, memoirs, resources, romances, and stories where we can see ourselves reflected. You can also browse the Stonewall Book Awards List to find more exceptional books about the LGBTQIA+ experience going back to 1971. You can also peruse PFLAG’s Transgender Reading List for Adults, and NYPL’s staff picks of Trans, Nonbinary, and GNC Reads list for more ideas!
LGBTQ youth are more than four times as likely to attempt suicide than their peers (Johns et al., 2019; Johns et al., 2020). According to the Trevor Project’s 2022 National Survey on LGBTQ Youth Mental Health, 45% of LGBTQ youth seriously considered attempting suicide in the past year, including more than half of transgender and nonbinary youth. Strong family bonds, safe schools, and support from caring adults can protect all LGBTQ youth from depression and suicidality (Committee on Adolescence 2013). For more information, be sure to check out 988’s LGBTQ+ page.
If you or someone you know may be considering suicide or is in crisis, call or text 988 to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
