Pelham Seed Library
For the 2025 growing season we have partnered with the Environmental Coalition of the Pelhams (EcoPel) to offer a seed library for the first time.
What is a seed library and how does it work?
Just like you would check out a book from the library, you can “check out” seeds from a seed library…you just don’t have to worry about due dates or returns!
EcoPel has supplied the seeds and gardening instructions. Thanks to EcoPel, these seeds have been repackaged into smaller portions for our patrons to take home meaning less commitment on your part and more of an opportunity to grow a variety of things.
Our seed library currently has a variety of herbs and vegetables to grow. We plan on refilling with other selections as the season progresses. These seeds will appeal to both the novice gardener and the seasoned pro. We hope you enjoy.
To participate:
- Browse the tray located by the DVD collection in the Library.
- Follow the instructions listed next to the seeds including filling out a seed sign-out slip when you take your seeds.
- Take a copy of the growing instructions for your plants.
- Bring your seeds home to plant!
- If you are able, consider trying to save seeds from your garden at the end of the growing season and “return” them to the library in the fall. (Returning seeds is not required to participate, but we hope you’ll give it a try!)
You can learn more about EcoPel’s efforts in the community as well as updates to the seed inventory by visiting their Instagram and Facebook pages.
Happy Growing!
