The Town of Pelham Public Library, along with other member libraries of the Westchester Library System (WLS), offers free access to Tutor.com, but many patrons aren’t aware of the platform’s capabilities and offerings. The biggest draw of Tutor.com is real-time academic and career tutoring, which is available seven days a week from 3 pm to 7 pm. This help is live and one-to-one and can be on anything from 7th grade algebra to brushing up a resume.
In addition, the platform aggregates other educational videos and websites, such as Kahn Academy, and offers specific lessons for subjects, for example the applications of the derivative for calculus. The site also allows you to submit a essay or term paper for review before turning it in, as well as dropping off a math question. Finally, it offers SAT practice tests (it’s owned by Princeton Review.) Open to any Westchester resident with a WLS member library card, Tutor.com’s Learning Suite can be accessed from any computer or mobile device.
“This program is individualized to help every student be successful in school, whether the child is an honor student tackling new concepts or an English language learning student who needs help developing his or her reading and writing skills,” says Terry Kirchner, Executive Director of WLS. “In addition, it offers job seekers live, one-to-one help from professional career tutors online.”
To access Tutor.com please visit www.tutor.com/westchester. Once there, here’s how you log in:
- Enter your Library card number (referred to as a bar code on the site).
- Enter your password (usually the last four digits of the phone number you have on file at the Library).
