It is with great sadness that the Library shares the news that former Children’s Services Librarian Lilly Hecker has passed away. She died peacefully at home on March 12 with her husband, Sid, by her side.
“Miss Lilly,” as she was known to many Pelham children, worked at the Library for most of its history, joining the staff in 2003 and retiring in 2017. She was also the Library’s first children’s librarian, and was largely responsible for building the children’s collection and programs. She led countless Story Times and other children’s programs, oversaw the Summer Reading Program and coached several teams in the annual Battle of the Books.
A memorial service is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Friday at Temple Bet Am Shalom, 295 Soundview Avenue, White Plains, NY.
Her family and friends are in our thoughts.
