The Library is planning special activities for the upcoming spring break, which in Pelham, is during the week of April 10. Come see an animal, build a bridge, watch a movie, or make things that go!

The spring break programs are in addition to the Library’s ongoing children’s programs which will be held that week, including the Tuesday and Wednesday Story Time sessions for pre-schoolers (see Library calendar), and the Library’s spring chess program — open to all ages — which will be held during spring break on Monday, April 10 at 7 p.m.

Here are details on the special spring break programs:

An Afternoon With the Greenburgh Nature Center’s Animals
Monday, April 10, 3:30 – 4:30 p.m.
The Greenburgh Nature Center is coming to the Library – and bringing a frog, a chinchilla, a snake, a bird, and more! Registration is required. This program is intended for children ages 4 and up.

Movie Screening: The Secret Life of Pets
Monday, April 11, 3 – 4:30 p.m.
Come to this special spring break movie screening at the Library. From the humans behind Despicable Me, The Secret Life of Pets answers the question: “Ever wonder what your pets do when you’re not home?” This program is for movie-goers of all ages. Registration is not required.

STEM Program: Having Fun With Simple Machines
Wednesday, April 12, 2 – 3 p.m.
The Westchester Children’s Museum comes to the Library during spring break for this program featuring Simple Machines at work. Everyone will have fun with cars, trucks and things that go while learning some basic principles of physical science using pulleys, levers, inclined planes and axles. This interactive lesson really gets things moving! This program is for ages 4 – 7, and registration is required.

STEM Program: Build a Truss Structure
Thursday, April 13, 2 – 3 p.m.
Truss Us, It’s Sturdy! Come to the Library for this spring break program, where you’ll get to build a Truss Structure – considered the strongest type of building because of the triangular shape it uses. In this hands-on STEM lesson for children ages 8 – 10, you’ll explore why certain shapes are stronger than others and how they distribute load and withstand force differently. Using what you learn, you’ll build and test the strength of your own truss bridge! This program is being presented by the Westchester Children’s Museum. Registration is required.

For events requiring registration, please call the Library at (914) 738-1234. Adult supervision is  required at all children’s programs. Regarding Story Time, caregivers are also welcome to participate with the children they accompany – that makes it a pleasurable experience for all! Please, no phone use or talking during Story Time. Because of Story Time’s popularity, a ticketing system will be used during school break to prevent overcrowding.

See you this spring at the Library!
