In the art world, “listed” is a word used to describe artists who are included in standard art reference books: you might see it used in auction houses and websites to signal that an artist is high-status. “Unlisted,” the title of this program about 20th century Jewish women artists, exposes how status and legitimacy have often been denied to women in the art world. In an often-sexist, male-dominated art world, these women often had to choose between gender roles and their career: some chose to give up their artistic practice, driving their names into obscurity.
Join Derfner Museum Senior Curator Emily O’Leary as we revist these artists and their work.
