SUMMARY:The Gay Harlem Renaissance with the New-York Historical
DESCRIPTION:As Harlem grew into the nation’s largest Black metropolis aft
er the First World War\, Black Southern and Caribbean migrants\, activists
\, and artists transformed the neighborhood into a nexus of political acti
vism\, creative expression\, and community life. Many of Harlem’s most c
elebrated poets\, novelists\, performers\, and artists were gay or bisexua
l (some discreetly and others openly). Whether on Harlem’s biggest stage
s or in its nightclubs or hidden speakeasies\, LGBTQ+ performers took cent
er stage. Join us to learn more about the people and places that shaped cu
ltural innovation and defined the era.\n\nThis program takes place on Zoom
and registration is required. Click here to register.\n\nThis program is
presented in collaboration with the Irvington\, North Castle\, and Somers
 Public Libraries.\n
