Outside Story Time

Sep 07
10:30 am -
11:00 am

Join us for our popular Story Time for infants and toddlers outside on our front lawn. Story time is designed to enhance early literacy skills and features diverse children’s books in which all children can see themselves represented… plus we have a lot of fun! Please bring a blanket or lawn chair to sit on. Story Time will be held outdoors throughout the year, but will be cancelled on days when the temperature is below 40 degrees at 9 a.m., or if it is raining.  Cancellations will be posted on our website at the top of our homepage.  You may also call the Library when we open at 10 a.m. to inquire.

Books and Bridles: the Story of the Horse Back Librarians

Sep 07
7:00 pm -
8:00 pm

During the Great Depression, the Works Progress Administration (WPA) implemented many huge infrastructure projects and improvements. But it also consisted of a little known program called the Packhorse Librarians. Join us and the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum to learn about the Packhorse Librarians, a small group of women whose mission was to deliver and distribute reading materials to the far-off corners of Appalachia during the darkest hours of the Great Depression. This event will take place on Zoom, and registration is required. Please register here. This program is presented in collaboration with the Irvington, Harrison, Somers, and Tuckahoe Public Libraries.
