It’s always a good time to stop by the Library and have some fun, and this year’s “Mud Week” winter break is no exception. In addition to arts programs, an African Drumming Circle and the ongoing Story Time programs, there will be a special Star Wars Day on Thursday, February 21 that will feature a movie, lightsaber training and face painting! Additionally, if you’ve been thinking about taking your second grader to the book club for their age group, it is meeting during the winter break.

See below for the exciting Mud Week details!

Saturday, February 16
Chinese-English Story Time, 10:30 – 11 a.m.
This bilingual Story Time program is led by local Chinese-speaking parents.

Monday, February 18
The Library is closed for the Presidents Day holiday.

Tuesday, February 19
Story Time, 10:15 – 10:45 a.m.
Take the little one in your life to Story Time! Caregivers must be in attendance and participate with the children they accompany. The Library requests there be no phone use or talking during Story Time. Because of this program’s popularity, a ticketing system is used to prevent overcrowding.

Play with Clay, Grades K – 2, 3 – 4 p.m.
Children ages kindergarten through second grade are invited to come do a polymer clay activity with clay guru and Pelham resident Sara Mallach. Attendance is on a first-come, first-served basis and open to the first 15 kids.

Wednesday, February 20
Story Time, 10:15 – 10:45 a.m.

Play with Clay, Grade 3 and Up, Wednesday, February 20, 3 – 4 p.m.
This session of Play with Clay is for children ages third grade and up and open to the first 15 who show up.

Thursday, February 21
Second-Grade Book Club: A Nest for Celeste by Henry Cole, 4 – 5 p.m.
Celeste the mouse is looking for a home, and searches for it in the toe of a warm boot, in her new friend’s shirt pocket, and deep in her heart, where her friendships live. This short novel has an interesting back story – Celeste’s new friend is the apprentice of John James Audubon and filled with black-and-white illustrations. Walk-ins are welcome to the Library’s elementary school book clubs, but registration is requested by calling the Library at (914) 738-1234. Book club books are usually available at the circulation desk for immediate checkout.

Star Wars Day Movie! Solo: A Star Wars Story, 1 – 3 p.m.
The Library will be holding two Star Wars-related programs on Thursday, February 21. This 2018 movie tells the origin story for Han Solo, depicting his life before 1977’s Star Wars: A New Hope. Directed by Ron Howard, it features Alden Ehrenreich as the young Han Solo. Rated PG-13. Registration is not required.

Star Wars Day! Lightsaber Training, 6 – 8:30 p.m.
In this program, Jedi from Empire Saber Guild will teach younglings – those age 4 and up – the ways of the lightsaber and the Force in this non-contact introductory course. Younglings will receive a class photo, a completion certificate and a training brochure to further their studies in lightsaber training. There will be multiple half-hour sessions, with a limit of 20 people for each. Yes — those who have a lightsaber can bring it!

Star Wars Day! Face Painting, 6 – 8 p.m.
Nicole Jones will be at the Library, using her face-painting skills to help you look like your favorite Sith character. This “Mud Week” event is for kids ages 2 and 70. Attendance is limited to the first 20 people.

Friday, February 22
Au Pair Story Time, 10:30 – 11:00 a.m.
The Library is now holding a monthly Au Pair Story Time program in which local au pairs read the stories—and registration is not required. Au pairs who might be interested in volunteering should contact the Library by calling (914) 738-1234. This program is also a great opportunity to meet other au pairs!

African Circle Drumming, 3 – 4 p.m.
African Circle Drumming is a fun and educational program for adults and children, ages 8 and up. Drums will be provided. Registration is required since there is a limit of 30 participants.

Saturday, February 23
Spanish-English Story Time, 10:30 – 11:15 a.m.
This popular bilingual Story Time program is led by Pelham resident Michelle Simon. Registration is not required.

(For programs requiring registration, call the Library at 914-738-1234. Programs for young children require adult supervision.)

With Gratitude for the Support

The drumming program, and additional funding for the clay programs are made possible by the Friends of the Town of Pelham Public Library.

Thank you also to our talented volunteers who enable us to provide many additional programs, including the Star Wars programs during “Mud Week.”
