Bookmark: Home for the Holidays? There’s a Lot to Do at the Library

The holiday season is almost upon us, with its promise of parties, presents, and – fortunately for people who will be here throughout December — activities at the Library. The holiday school break will feature children’s programs including a magic show, board games, visits by real animals and a special appearance by an animated one: Dory! (Note: These are not drop-off programs; adult supervision is required.)

Also, just as December’s stress levels start to hit for grown-ups, there is a new adult program that is sure to bring bliss. Read on for more details of these fun and fabulous programs at the Library – and don’t forget, all Library programs are free and open to the public.

It Takes Only One to Zentangle
Adults who are looking for an enjoyable new artistic hobby – with ramifications for some great holiday gifts, – might try Zentangle. It’s a method of creating beautiful images from repetitive patterns and Jill Greenbaum, a certified Zentangle instructor, will teach two sessions at the Library. Greenbaum will introduce students to the roots of this art and the steps to follow to draw wonderful Zentangle tiles. One session is on Monday, December 5 and the other is on Monday, December 19. Both are from 7 – 8:30 p.m. and patrons can attend one, or both, classes. Each attendee will receive supplies. Registration is required.

Animal Embassy Reaches Out at the Library
The week of activities kicks off on Tuesday, December 27 from 3 – 3:45 p.m. when Animal Embassy returns to the Library with a program featuring live animals. This program is for children ages four and up. Animal Embassy’s collection includes snakes, lizards, toads, birds, frogs and more! Registration is required.

Dory: Found at the Library
On Wednesday, December 28 from 2:30 – 4 p.m., the Library will screen the movie Finding Dory for ages five and up. Here’s the official description: From the Academy Award–winning creators of Disney Pixar’s Finding Nemo comes an epic undersea adventure filled with imagination, humor and heart. When Dory, the forgetful blue tang (voiced by Ellen DeGeneres), suddenly remembers she has a family who may be looking for her, she, Marlin (Albert Brooks) and Nemo (Hayden Rolence) take off on a life-changing quest to find them. 

Finding Magic at the Library
Joe the Magic Man will bring his tricks to the Library on Thursday, December 29 from 2:30 – 3:30 p.m. He will perform a variety of magic tricks for ages four and up. Registration is required.

Play Games and Build at the Library
The week of special activities concludes on Friday, December 30 when the Library once again opens its stash of Legos and board games for 90 minutes of enjoyment. From 2:30 – 4:00 p.m., children ages four and up can stop by and play Hungry, Hungry Hippo, Rummikub, Scrabble Jr., cards, matching games and more – including, of course, making Lego creations.

Holiday Story Time!
The Library’s usual weekly Story Time sessions will be held during holiday break. Story Time for ages 3 – 5 is on Tuesdays from 10:30 – 11 a.m., while children up through age two can attend on Wednesdays at the same time.

The Library’s two bi-lingual Saturday morning Story Time sessions, which are held on alternate Saturday mornings, will be on hiatus for December 24 and 31. Spanish-English Story Time resumes on Saturday, January 7 starting at 10:30, and Chinese-English Story Time resumes on Saturday, January 14 at the same time.
