Welcome to the Children's Library

The Children's Room is a cheerful spot for lots of reasons. Thanks to the renovation of the Children's Room by the Friends of the Library, the generous gift provided new furniture, carpeting, and a wonderful mural by John Hastings. In addition, kids love to play tic tac toe and bead races on our wood square, puzzles, and, of course, a collection of stuffed animals.

Our holdings include DVDs (they are all G rated), music CDs, audiobooks for kids from preschool through middle school. We have pictures books, oversized picture books, and holiday books. For beginning readers, we have simple texts that help children get ready for longer chapter books. These books are labeled JE. There are biographies for children from 2nd grade through middle school. Kits contain both a book and either a tape or CD that follows the text word for word.

A Parenting Collection is housed in the Pre-School area. These books focus on specific issues such as ADHD, Asperger's Syndrome, or Allergies. General parenting books can be found in the adult nonfiction stacks.

In our main room we have both fiction and nonfiction books and magazines for children. Our fiction collection contains chapter books from the very easy through middle school. Additionally, we have series books and graphic novels. In nonfiction we have books to read for enjoyment and also books that are useful for school reports. Some of our holdings are on ancient Egypt, Rome, Greece, animals, fairy tales, explorers, and cultures of the world. Our reference section has books on science, history, dictionaries, World Book Encyclopedia, atlases, and more. We permit children to borrow an older version of the World Book Encyclopedia.
